Statewide announcements to retire coal-fired power plants is adding to Wisconsin’s rapid move away from fossil fuels. In 2019, for the first time in more than three decades, coal-fired power plants provided less than half of Wisconsin’s electricity net generation. Gov. Tony Evers set a goal last August for the state to produce carbon-free electricity by 2050.
