Company headquartered in Madison creates masks that kill COVID-19 pathogens

MADISON (WKOW) -- A company headquartered in Madison has developed a face mask that is scientifically proven to destroy pathogens.

Swiss hygiene company Livinguard (U.S. headquarters in Madison) tells 27 News the technology has been used in the past on camping clothing, to make reusable sanitary napkins and to treat water.

When applied to textiles, the technology destroys pathogens upon contact. Livinguard says the mask can be washed and used more than 200 times while maintaining its virus destroying capabilities.

Tests recently completed at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Department of Environmental Studies, show that over 99% of Human coronavirus 229e – the surrogate to the novel coronavirus -- that comes into contact with Livinguard treated textiles are destroyed.
