Wisconsin county weighs restrictions on sulfide mining

A central Wisconsin county held a public hearing last week on a proposed ordinance to regulate sulfide mining.

The ordinance in Marathon County, which includes Wausau, would require a mining company to abide by state environmental regulations, pay a $50,000 application fee, and make a $15,000 contribution to a trust fund to cover possible well contamination.
