Shrinking greenhouse gas emissions is all about economics for We Energies


WEC Energy Group Inc. president and CEO Allen Leverett enjoys reading biographies of America’s “conservationist president” Theodore Roosevelt, but it’s not environmentalism that’s igniting Leverett’s drive to reduce his company’s greenhouse gas emissions.

For Leverett, the even-keeled CEO of Wisconsin’s largest electric utility, it’s all about economics — not ecology. And definitely not politics.

Specifically, what Leverett calls “coal-gas economics” is behind WEC Energy’s long-term transition away from burning coal and relying more heavily on natural gas and renewable energy sources. Ken Notes: I sooooo wish that Environmental advocates were required to take a course in business economics and it`s importance in our economy. We would then be seen as advocates for clean energy and sustainability rather that clueless advocates for costly mandates. In the end we would be far more powerful and accomplish much more. Especially now when new technologies make green economically attractive...
