Dane County parks `visionary` Phil Lewis dies


He was nationally known for his work cataloging landscape features to be preserved

Phil Lewis, a nationally known professor of landscape architecture who was instrumental in the preservation of a vast swath of meadow and wetland that runs for 7 miles from Lake Farm Park to Dunn’s Marsh, died on Sunday, according to former colleagues.

The Lewis Nine Springs E-Way is an impressive example of the UW-Madison professor’s gift for designing environmental corridors that enhance relationships between people and nature, said Bill Lunney, a longtime Dane County Parks Commission chairman....

Ken Notes: We need visionaries like this now more that ever. We must work together to accommodate growth for business while preserving areas like the E-Way. If we would stop yelling at each other we would find that the vary economic resources we need to preserve our natural resources is readily available form the private sector. And they are willing to invest if we stop telling them what to do and start asking for help...
